Lear inaugurates new manufacturing base in Shanghai Lin-gang Special Area

Recently, auto parts company Lear Automotive Parts (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. celebrated the grand opening of its new manufacturing base in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area.

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Recently, auto parts company Lear Automotive Parts (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. celebrated the grand opening of its new manufacturing base in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area, part of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the company announced via its WeChat account.

The new facility spans 14,000 square meters and will support the production of Lear's keyproducts. This base is set to achieve fully intelligent manufacturing, positioning it as Lear's most advanced factory in China.

Founded in 1917, Lear Corporation specializes in automotive seating, as well as electronic and electrical systems, serving major global automakers with vertically integrated seat systems. The company has R&D centers and manufacturing plants worldwide. In 2023, Lear's adjusted net profit surged nearly 40% year over year to $710 million, with revenue increasing 12% from a year ago to $23.5 billion.

The Chinese market is a critical component of Lear's global operations. Since entering China in 1996, Lear has established 50 manufacturing plants and 5 R&D centers in cities such as Beijing, Changchun, Shenyang, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Ningbo, along with its Asia-Pacific and China headquarters in Shanghai's Yangpu District.

The inauguration of the Lin-gang facility marks a significant step in Lear's strategy to expand its business in China, underscoring its commitment to sustained investment and growth in the region. This development is also expected to enhance the automotive and advanced manufacturing ecosystem in the Lin-gang area.
