Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of SAIC Volkswagen ("SAIC VW"), a new chapter of cooperation between Volkswagen Group and SAIC Motor commenced on the afternoon of June 27.

Volkswagen Group, SAIC Motor, Volkswagen (China) Investment Company Ltd., Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., Ltd., and SAIC VW signed multiple technical cooperation agreements in Shanghai related to new product projects for SAIC VW. These agreements include technical cooperation for developing three plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models and two battery electric vehicle (BEV) models in China. This Sino-German collaboration aims to power the joint venture with technology, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their partnership. From 2026 and beyond 2030, these jointly developed PHEV and BEV models are expected to be gradually introduced to the market.

Just over a month ago, on May 20, also in Shanghai, SAIC Motor signed a cooperation agreement with Audi to officially initiate the joint development of the Advanced Digitized Platform. The production base for this new intelligent digital platform will also undergo updates, with new vehicles set to roll off the assembly line in 2025.

With the signing of these multiple cooperation agreements, SAIC VW's product lineup and technical capabilities in the new energy vehicle (NEV) field will be further enhanced, with a product plan extending beyond 2030.

Over the past four decades, SAIC VW's shareholders have worked together to promote the development of the joint venture. SAIC VW is one of China's earliest joint-venture car manufacturers and has achieved many industry firsts, contributing to the development and integration of China's modern automotive industry into the global market.

"We are fully committed to advancing our electrification strategy and have outlined a clear roadmap. The Chinese electric vehicle market is vibrant and highly competitive, and strengthening our strategic cooperation with SAIC Motor to promote the electrification of SAIC VW's product lineup is of great significance to us. Therefore, Volkswagen Group will continue to provide top-notch technology and innovative mobility solutions," said Ralf Brandstätter, Chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group China. "This will further accelerate the transformation of SAIC VW with the support of Volkswagen and its strong partners. We are expanding our range of all-electric intelligent connected vehicles and focusing on accelerating our layout in the growing PHEV sector to offer consumers more attractive product choices."
