Beijing (Gasgoo)- On June 24, Valeo Intelligent Transportation Systems Shanghai Co., Ltd. held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new project in Shanghai, reaffirming its commitment to further strengthen its presence in the Chinese market.

The project is set to focus on the R&D and production of intelligent driving cameras, LiDAR, domain controllers, and more, providing vital support for Valeo's deeper expansion into China’s intelligent driving field.

With a broad product portfolio in the intelligent technology domain, Valeo offers ultrasonic sensors, cameras, millimeter-wave radar, LiDAR, and related sensor cleaning systems, next-generation domain controllers, integrated artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm software, meeting multifaceted development needs in intelligent driving and smart cabins.

According to Marc Vrecko, CEO of Valeo Brain Division and Group Executive Vice President, approximately one in every three new vehicles globally is equipped with Valeo's advanced driving assistance technologies and products. The establishment of this new factory is expected to leverage the advantages of Shanghai and surrounding areas' automotive industries, further driving innovation and development of smart traffic systems.

In recent years, with the rapid development of intelligent driving, Valeo has continuously deepened its layout in the Chinese market. In 2022, Valeo established the Innovation and Mobility Center in Beijing, focusing on exploring smart mobility solutions. In 2023, Valeo successively unveiled the third phase of its Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems R&D Center in Wuhan and the Shanghai R&D Center. In April of this year, Valeo officially launched the Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems Vehicle Testing Base in Jingzhou, further strengthening its local manufacturing and R&D capabilities in the intelligent driving field.

Valeo currently has 35 factories, 14 R&D centers, and over 18,000 employees in China, including over 4,500 R&D personnel. In 2023, Valeo's total sales in China reached 30 billion yuan, accounting for 17% of the group's total sales.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
