POSCO Holdings President Jeong Ki-seop met with Argentina's Economy Minister Luis Caputo in Buenos Aires on 12 June, requesting inclusion in Argentina's RIGI incentive regime, which offers tax benefits for large-scale investments. The Argentine government assured support, including infrastructure and licensing assistance.
POSCO is constructing two lithium brine production plants at Argentina's Salar del Hombre Muerto Salt Lake, aiming for a combined capacity of 50,000 tons annually. The first plant, with a 25,000-ton capacity, will be completed this year, and the second by 2025.
On 14 June, Jeong met with Chilean mining officials in Santiago to discuss participating in new lithium brine projects under Chile’s National Lithium Strategy.
In a related move, Japan and Chile announced plans to expand cooperation in lithium mining and supply to ensure a stable and environmentally friendly supply chain.
