In 2023, the comprehensive energy consumption per mt of steel for CISA member units was 557.15 kgce/t. If from 2024 to 2025, through the implementation of energy-saving and carbon reduction transformation and energy equipment updates in the steel industry, energy savings equivalent to about 20 million mt of standard coal are achieved, then a reduction of about 35.9 million mt of crude steel will be needed, with an annual average reduction of about 17.94 million mt. If from 2024 to 2025, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 53 million mt, and the carbon dioxide emissions per mt of steel are about 1.8 mt, then to reduce 53 million mt of carbon dioxide emissions, a reduction of about 30 million mt of crude steel output will be needed, with an annual average reduction of about 15 million mt. Therefore, from 2024 to 2025, the annual average reduction of crude steel output will be 15-18 million mt to achieve the carbon reduction target of the steel industry.
