Amcor Capsules, the leader in designing and manufacturing eco-friendly capsules and closures for wines and spirits, is set to launch ESSENTIELLE in October 2024. This innovative, plastic-free foil, made of aluminium and paper, is part of a collaboration with the prestigious Moët & Chandon, owned by LVMH. As Moët & Chandon pursues sustainable packaging, the ESSENTIELLE foil promises to completely change the industry with its lower carbon footprint and high recyclability.

Amcor Capsules' ESSENTIELLE foil represents a groundbreaking shift in the packaging industry. Crafted from paper sourced in Europe and approximately 60% aluminium, this foil significantly reduces its environmental impact. Compared to conventional plastic-based foils, ESSENTIELLE boasts a 31% lower carbon footprint. Aluminium, known for its excellent recyclability, maintains the product’s aesthetic appeal and customisation, essential for premium brands like Moët & Chandon.

With over 280 years of heritage, Moët & Chandon manages the largest vineyard in Champagne. Their commitment to sustainability aligns perfectly with Amcor Capsules’ innovative approach. The collaboration aims to enhance the eco-responsibility of Champagne packaging without compromising on quality or productivity. Moët & Chandon’s production capabilities, handling over 12,000 bottles per hour, necessitate solutions that are both sustainable and efficient.

Aluminium's role in ESSENTIELLE is pivotal. Not only does it contribute to a significant reduction in carbon emissions, but it also ensures the foil's durability and visual appeal. The TREE assessment tool by CITEO validates the recyclability of aluminium when combined with glass recycling in France, reinforcing the material’s environmental advantages. Aluminium’s ability to retain its properties through multiple recycling processes further highlights its value in sustainable packaging.

The Managing Director of Amcor Capsules, Yannick Magnon, asserted: “The launch of the ESSENTIELLE plastic-free foil draws attention to the expertise at our Mareuil-sur-Aÿ site, which specialises in the manufacture of foils and is located in the heart of the Champagne region. Amcor Capsules is drawing on ESSENTIELLE to revolutionise the industry by offering a recyclable, plastic-free solution that suits the fast pace of their packaging lines, confirming its major role among wine-growing players here in Champagne.”

A critical aspect of ESSENTIELLE’s design is its compatibility with current bottling and packaging processes. Amcor Capsules guarantees that the switch to plastic-free foil will not disrupt productivity, a crucial factor for high-output producers like Moët & Chandon. This assurance positions ESSENTIELLE as a practical yet innovative solution for the industry.

Fed to Keep Large Banks' Capital Levels Unchanged, Postpones Stress Test Reforms Until 2027
The US Fed has announced that it will maintain the capital levels of large banks unchanged during the upcoming stress test cycle (corresponding to the 2026 cycle). At the same time, the US Fed is planning multidimensional reforms to this annual test, aiming to enhance its transparency. The US Fed's Vice Chair for Supervision, Bowman, revealed that adjustments to the stress capital buffer requirements for large banks will be postponed until 2027. This move is intended to provide the US Fed with sufficient time to evaluate potential flaws that may be exposed in its testing models when assessing banks' financial conditions under simulated economic downturn scenarios.
