Indonesia, the main copper producer, has decided to postpone the start time of the export ban on copper concentrate to the end of this year. Indonesia's largest copper miners, Freeport Indonesia and Amman Mineral, are expected to start copper processing at their respective new smelters in May 2024, and their copper concentrate export licenses will last until May 31. The Indonesian Trade Ministry has been issuing export licenses to miners, allowing them to continue exporting copper concentrate until their newly built smelters increase production and reach full capacity. Indonesia had previously planned to ban the export of copper concentrate from June 1. However, Budi Santoso, the Director General of Foreign Trade at the Trade Ministry, said on Friday that the ban will now be postponed to December 31, 2024.
