Arizona Lithium has announced the start of production drilling at its Prairie project in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Arizona Lithium has announced the start of production drilling at its Prairie project in Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in the resource-rich Williston Basin, this project uses conventional oil and gas drilling methods to extract lithium-rich brine from aquifers approximately 2.3 km underground.

Managing Director Paul Lloyd stated in a press release, “We are excited to begin our drilling program as planned. The rig is on site, and the first well has been spudded and is currently being drilled.”

The drilling program, set to last several months, will encompass three pads. The initial phase involves drilling vertical wells to evaluate the commercial potential of the Souris River and Duperow formations, followed by assessments of the Dawson Bay formation and designated disposal targets. Production and disposal testing for the first pad is scheduled to commence in June, as per the Australia-based company's announcement.

The Prairie project boasts a mineral resource of 6.3 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE), with 4.5 million tonnes indicated and 1.8 million tonnes inferred. Arizona Lithium aims to achieve commercial lithium production by 2025.
