[Whitehall BESS energy storage project in Scotland opposed by the council] West Dunbartonshire Council has objected to the Whitehall BESS battery storage scheme submitted by green energy company Apatura in November last year. According to local media reports, the decision was based on opposition from local residents to the project, which Apatura had proposed to build a 560MW lithium-ion battery storage system and associated equipment on about 29 hectares of land in the county. SMM has previously reported on other aborted energy storage plans in the U.K. due to opposition from residents. As the number of energy storage projects grows, there are more and more residents and outsiders in Europe who are concerned about the construction of energy storage facilities and its safety, many of them are opponents.
