According to SMM, the Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco) reported that Chile's copper production in March decreased slightly due to a sharp decline in copper production by the state-owned copper company (Codelco). Codelco's copper production in March decreased by 10.1% to 107,300 tons. The company is currently the world's largest copper producer. The output of BHP Billiton's Escondida copper mine in March was 101,400 tons, an increase of 9.7% year on year. The output of another large copper mine, Collahuasi, jointly operated by Glencore and Anglo American in Chile, increased by 16.1% year on year to 49,800 tons. The data released by Cochilco also showed that Chile's copper production in March decreased by 0.7% year on year to 433,300 tons.
