Recently, the largest scrap car recycler in the UK, EMR, announced on May 2nd that it has finalized the acquisition of a significant stake in Australian renewable metals company, Renewable Metals. Through this acquisition, EMR will build a pilot-scale battery refining plant at its research and development center in Birmingham, UK, to extract key battery minerals. The plant will utilize a recycling process that can achieve higher recovery rates without producing sodium sulfate, producing LME-grade nickel and copper, as well as cobalt, lithium, and manganese salts from discarded battery modules through crushing and refining.
