Leapmotor C16 to incorporate CALB’s LFP batteries

The Leapmotor C16, a yet-to-be-launched model under Chinese new energ vehicle maker Leapmotor, will utilize the LFP batteries by CALB Co., Ltd.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Leapmotor C16, a yet-to-be-launched model under Chinese new energy vehicle maker Leapmotor, will utilize the LFP batteries by CALB Co., Ltd., according to the 382nd batch of "Announcement of Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Products" released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on April 15.

The new vehicle adopts the signature design language similar to Leapmotor C10, featuring a smooth front outline where a light strip runs across the car's width. The rear also sports the through-type tailight design, with the “LEAPMOTOR” emblem displayed below.

In terms of dimensions, the new model measures 4,915mm in length, 1,905mm in width and 1,770mm in height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,825mm.

According to the information declared to the MIIT, the Leapmotor C16 will be equipped with roof-mounted LiDAR units, monocular cameras, and binocular cameras, among others. It is expected to adopt a 6-seater layout.

Currently, Leapmotor has four models available for sale: the T03 microcar with a price range of 49,900 yuan to 89,900 yuan, the C01 mid-to-large-sized sedan priced between 136,800 yuan and 208,800 yuan, the C10 mid-sized SUV priced from 128,800 yuan to 168,800 yuan, and the slightly larger mid-sized SUV C11 featuring a price range of 148,800 yuan to 209,800 yuan.

Among these, the microcar is only available in BEV (battery electric vehicle) version, while the mid-to-large-sized sedan and SUVs offer both BEV and REEV (range-extended electric vehicle) variants.

The C16 model will be officially launched at the 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2024). It is set for SOP (Start of Production) at the end of May, with deliveries starting in June.

Looking ahead, Leapmotor plans to introduce a compact sedan/SUV series, probably named the A series, which will be positioned below the currently available C series.
