Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) officially put the Baojun Yep Plus and the 2024 Baojun Yep models onto the market on April 12.

The existing Baojun Yep is a three-door model, while the newly released Baojun Yep Plus features a five-door layout with several adjustments in configurations.

The Tianyu architecture, the fire new architecture that integrates SGMW's latest achievements in electrification and intelligence, was also officially unveiled at the recent product launch event, covering segments from minicars to mid-to-large-sized vehicles.

Baojun Yep Plus

Positioned as a small-sized all-electric SUV, the Baojun Yep Plus adopts the design language of "Square Box+", presenting a distinctly boxy appearance. Upon closer inspection, the new car features a black closed-off front grille that houses the charging ports for both fast and slow charging, coupled with quad-point LED daytime running lights, enhancing the visual width of the vehicle. The front bumper adopts an off-road style design.

In terms of color options, the new car will be available in 5 new colors, named Misty Gray, Cloud Sea White, Sky Blue, Aurora Green, and Deep Space Black.

Viewed from the side, the new car retained the boxy design characteristics of the "Square Box", ensuring ample seating space. Compared to the three-door model, its wheelbase has been significantly increased from 2,110mm to 2,560mm. A body-colored decorative panel has been added behind the C-pillar. Additionally, the roof is equipped with a luggage rack, and the wheels have been replaced with new gray dual five-spoke ones.

The most significant feature of the Baojun Yep Plus compared to the three-door model is the removal of the "little backpack", and the addition of the Baojun Logo at the center of the rear. The new car adopts classic urban zebra front headlights and racetrack-style rear taillights, continuing the Yep range's four-horizontal and four-vertical layout. Furthermore, a high-mounted brake light has been added above the rear end, and the trunk lid opens sideways.

The car adopts a classic side-opening rear door design, providing a 12-liter storage space while also allowing for the expansion of a small table from the back. In terms of dimensions, the new car measures 3,996mm in length, 1,760mm in width, and 1,726mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,560mm. Its ground clearance reaches 150mm when fully loaded, and the turning radius is only 5.35 meters.

In terms of interior design, the new car features a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, paired with a trendy independent large-sized LCD instrument panel and floating central control screen, as well as rounded rectangular air vents.

According to the automaker, the new car adopts low-emission and odor-free 3D Mesh advanced environmental protection materials, achieving full leather coverage in high-contact areas such as the dashboard, door armrests, and seats. Both the front and rear seats are made of ultra-soft and thick memory foam with independent headrests. The driver's seat is equipped with 6-way power adjustment as standard configuration, while the passenger seat enables 4-way manual adjustments.

In terms of power, the Baojun Yep Plus adopts a front-mounted electric motor, which can churn out up to 102 hp, allowing for a top speed of 150 km/h. Its CLTC-rated range reaches up to 401 km.

2024 Baojun Yep

As an annual facelift version, the 2024 Baojun Yep EV retains the design language of the existing model, featuring a slender coast-to-coast front grille, connected to the lights on either side, complemented by four-point LED daytime running lights. Below, it is paired with a front bumper design that exudes a strong off-road style, still matched with the raised lines on the hood, enhancing the sporty feel.

From the side view, this compact pure electric SUV features robust wheel arches and wide side skirts with sturdy stepboards. Its two-door, short and compact body structure gives it a more agile appearance, while its high-gloss black multi-spoke wheels enhances its elegance. In terms of dimensions, it measures 3,381mm in length, 1,685mm in width, 1,721mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,110mm.

The interior of the new car bears many similarities with the existing Yep Plus, but there are some differences in the details. The new model's cockpit appears more compact and features a dual-screen design. Also, there are variations in the design below the air vents and around the seat armrests.

In terms of anemities, the 2024 Yep EV will come standard with LED high and low beams, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, a roof luggage rack, a 10.25-inch dual-sceen setup, a multifunction steering wheel, leather-wrapped seats, 6-way power adjustments for the driver's seat, automatic windshield wipers, cruise control, keyless entry, and four speakers throughout the vehicle, and so on.

Power-wise, the new car is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous drive motor with a maximum power of 50kW and a peak torque of 140Nm. As for the battery, the vehicle carries a 28.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, providing a range of 303km.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
