Academician Chen Jun of the Chinese Academy of Sciences: the safety of solid-state batteries has greatly improved, but still faces multiple challenges in industrialization. On April 10th, the 12th Energy Storage International Summit and Exhibition was held today. Academician Chen Jun of the Chinese Academy of Sciences stated that people all over the world who make batteries are finding ways to solve the safety issues of high energy density batteries. Solid-state batteries will not catch fire like gasoline, and their safety has greatly improved. He mentioned that the most ideal situation is to use solid electrolytes and remove the separator. Currently, solid-state batteries only exist as conceptual samples, and the cost is still quite high for industrialization. There are many challenges in terms of the stability of solid electrolytes, interactions, and system integration. (Caixin Global)
