[SMM Steel Shipping] China’s total export volume increased by 2% WoW last week

SMM statistics showed that steel shipments at domestic ports totalled 6.643 million mt last week, down 382,700 mt or 5% week-on-week. Among them, the combined shipments across six major ports in the north (Jingtang Port, Caofeidian Port, Bayuquan Port, Tianjin Xingang Port, Huanghua Port, Jinzhou Port) were 2.7916 million mt, down 14,100 mt WoW, accounting for 42% of the total shipments. The combined shipments across three major ports in east China (Shanghai Port, Zhangjiagang Port and Lanbei Port) were 395,100 mt, accounting for 6% of the total shipments. The combined shipments across two major ports in south China (Zhanjianggang Port and Fangchenggang Port) were 307,200 mt, down 10,900 mt, accounting for 5% of the total shipments.

SMM statistics showed that steel arrivals at domestic ports totalled 6.0444 million mt last week, down 2% week-on-week. Among them, arrivals across the 13 major ports in east China were 3.4458 million mt, down 258,200 mt, accounting for 57% of the total arrivals. Arrivals at Guangzhou Port in south China were 336,100 mt, up 76,400 mt, accounting for 6% of the total arrivals.

Port shipments outside China were 1.3273 million mt last week, down 2% from a week ago. Shipments by Chinese ports for exports were 1.8166 million mt, an increase of 2% on a weekly basis.

In terms of varieties

Global port shipments of steel plate were 61,800 mt last week, up 100% week-on-week. Global port shipments of steel coil were 217,900 mt last week, a drop of 53% week-on-week. Global port shipments of pig iron were 448,200 mt last week, down 28% week-on-week. Global port shipments of steel billets were 232,800 mt last week, down 48% week-on-week.
