Beijing (Gasgoo)- On March 8, XinDong-Semi, the chip arm of Great Wall Motor, and STMicroelectronics entered into a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at driving the development in silicon carbide (SiC) power module technology. 

As the market demand for new energy vehicles grows, more automakers are seeking the transition from 400V to 800V high-voltage platforms, catering to consumers' daily commuting and long-distance travel needs.

SiC chips are widely used in key components such as electric drive inverters, on-board chargers (OBCs), and DC-DC converters due to their excellent high-voltage and high-temperature resistance characteristics. As the demand for SiC chips continues to rise, XinDong-Semi is establishing long-term partnerships with high-quality suppliers to ensure a stable supply of SiC chips and further develop the SiC power module field.

XinDong-Semi, established as a subsidiary of Great Wall Motor in November 2022, focuses on independent R&D to achieve self-sufficiency in power semiconductor supply. The company aims to develop third-generation SiC power semiconductor modules and application solutions.

In February 2023, the construction of XinDong-Semi's manufacturing base for the "Third-Generation Semiconductor Module Assembly and Testing Project" in Wuxi city, Jiangsu Province commenced, and the project saw its first production line starts operation in October. With a total investment of 800 million yuan, the facility covers an area of approximately 30,000 square meters and has an estimated annual production capacity of 1.2 million sets of automotive-grade modules.

[Solid-State Batteries: SEVC POWER Completed Several Hundred Million Yuan in Financing, Accelerating the Industrialisation of Sulphide All-Solid-State Batteries] On 26 August 2026, solid-state battery enterprise SEVC POWER announced that it had completed external financing of several hundred million yuan. This round was co-led by existing shareholders Saike Investment and CICC Capital, with Zhongguancun Qihang, Dingfeng Kechuang, Zhongguancun Yulin, Linjie Venture Capital, Yibin Talent Fund, and Yibin Zhengchuang participating as co-investors. The proceeds will be used for the construction and capacity expansion of production lines for sulphide electrolytes, high-safety batteries, all-solid-state battery cells, and PACK, and to continuously advance the development of the material system, solid–solid interface, cycle life, and continuous manufacturing processes for sulphide all-solid-state batteries, while also expanding the R&D, engineering manufacturing, and marketing teams. The company was recently certified as an “Innovative Small and Medium-sized Enterprise of Sichuan Province (2026)” and was listed on the GEI China Potential Unicorn Enterprise List, marking dual recognition from both capital markets and the industry in the industrialisation track for sulphide all-solid-state batteries.
