Beijing (Gasgoo)- On February 27, Baidu's autonomous driving ride-hailing service platform, Apollo Go, saw its unmanned vehicle successfully traverse the Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge and the Baishazhou Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan city, Hubei Province.

This feat, known as the "First Cross of the Yangtze River," establishes Wuhan as the first city nationwide to demonstrate the operational integration of intelligent connected vehicles crossing the Yangtze River.

Wuhan, as the largest city in central China, boasts a complex urban terrain with numerous rivers and lakes crisscrossing its landscape. With 11 bridges spanning the Yangtze River, Wuhan's intricate transportation network plays a vital role in the daily lives of its 14 million residents, particularly in inter-river travel.

The successful crossing by Apollo Go signifies a seamless connection between the northern and southern regions of the city, expanding the scope and scale of autonomous driving services while enhancing transportation options for Wuhan residents. This milestone contributes to Wuhan's ambition to become a leading city in autonomous driving innovation.

Currently, 21 cities in China, including Beijing, Wuhan, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, have issued local policies for autonomous driving testing, with over 60 companies holding testing licenses. Baidu's Apollo program has amassed a cumulative testing distance of over 90 million kilometers so far, reaffirming its commitment to advancing autonomous driving technology.
