Based on the EPC/system bid winning results of energy storage projects tracked by SMM in January, the total capacity reached 1.6GW/3.0GWh. The capacity of bid wins in a single month declined compared to December. The largest bid winning volume this month came from the EPC general contracting project for Phase I of the 100MW/200MWh Guanling Yueliangwan electrochemical energy storage power station, with the energy storage power station having a capacity of 100MW/200MWh. The planned site of the energy storage power station is 3.2km west of Guanling County, Anshun City, Guizhou Province. It is an electrochemical energy storage power station adopting lithium iron phosphate lithium batteries. The operation mode of the energy storage power station focuses on smoothing renewable energy power plant output and peak shaving, while taking into account a certain frequency regulation capability. In terms of prices, the average bid winning price of 2-hour energy storage systems was RMB 0.74/Wh, still at low levels; the average bid winning price of 2-hour energy storage EPC was RMB 1.22/Wh, with little change compared to December. Entering 2024 Q1, most energy storage projects are still in the demonstration phase, and bid winning capacity declined notably. It is worth mentioning that based on the project information tracked by SMM, the proportion of shared energy storage projects increased markedly. Currently, problems of low utilization

[Energy Storage: 100MW/200MWh! Sunwoda's Another Energy Storage Project Breaks Ground]
Recently, it was reported that the 100MW/200MWh energy storage power station project of Nanjing Xinxin Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. has broken ground in the Lishui Development Zone, Nanjing. The project has a total investment of 250 million yuan and covers an area of approximately 22.14 mu. It plans to construct a 100MW/200MWh grid-side electrochemical energy storage power station (grid-following type), equipped with a 110kV booster station and double-circuit overhead outgoing transmission lines. The project will ultimately connect to the 220kV Honghua substation for grid integration and will be subject to unified dispatch by the provincial power grid. According to the plan, the project is expected to be connected to the grid by the end of December this year.

[Storage: Germany launches first 4.5GW dispatchable capacity and long-duration storage auction]
Germany’s Federal Network Agency has launched the first auction under the new Electricity Supply Security and Capacity Act, with bids for new dispatchable generation and long-duration energy storage due by Sept. 8. The first round covers 4.5GW of capacity, with successful bidders receiving capacity payments in exchange for keeping facilities available for 15 years. Battery storage is eligible only if it can discharge continuously for at least 10 hours, with a reduction factor of 0.58 for 10-hour systems and 0.85 for 20-hour systems. Batteries must also achieve 100% technical availability, at least 92% round-trip efficiency, and meet local-content requirements for key components such as cells and inverters. Results are expected on Nov. 3.
