Changan Automobile achieves 63.19% YoY spike in Jan. auto sales

Chinese automaker Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. (Changan Automobile) sold 280,367 vehicles in the first month of 2024, representing a 63.19% soar year-on-year.

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Chinese automaker Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. ("Changan Automobile") sold 280,367 vehicles in the first month of 2024, representing a 63.19% soar year-on-year.

In January 2024, Changan's wholly-owned brands sold 241,485 vehicles in total, which surged 65.1% from a year ago. Among which, 52,581 units were new energy vehicles, shooting up 87.58% year on year. In the meantime, the company’s wholly-owned brands also excelled in overseas markets in January with sales reaching 46,620 units, indicating a 160.23% spike compared to that of the previous year.

Changan Automobile’s new energy vehicle brand Deepal delivered 17,042 vehicles in the past month, representing a 177.69% hike year-on-year, but also a 7.07% drop month-on-month. 

Meanwhile, AVATR, Changan’s jointly developed premium car brand with Huawei and CATL, refreshed its monthly delivery record in January, which came in at 7,059 units, marking a 15.6% month-on-month increase.

As to Changan Automobile’s joint venture brands, Changan Ford sold 20,957 vehicles in the past month, up 39.47% year on year. At the same time, Changan Mazda achieved a 128.83% soar in January sales, amounting to 9,208 units.

On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
