During the survey period (January 30-February 5), the rebar rolling line operating rate and output in central China declined.

During the survey period (January 30-February 5), the rebar rolling line operating rate and output in central China declined. Rebar production in central China is expected to continue to decline.

Specifically: in terms of EF, many electric furnace steel plants in Henan and Hubei stopped production during the week, resulting in a decrease in output and operating rates; in terms of BF, the preliminary annual inspections of steel plants in Henan, Hubei and Hunan basically ended. The production pace remained stable. In terms of factory warehouses, the market took CNY holiday one after another. As of the end of this period, more than 90% of traders have entered holiday, market transactions stagnated, and factory inventories continued to grow.

It is expected that rebar production in central China will continue to decline next week, mainly due to the complete shutdown of EF in the next period, and rebar supply will continue to decrease.

During the survey period (January 30-February 5), the wire rods operating rate and output in central China declined. Specifically: many EF steel plants in Henan and Hubei stopped production at the end of January, resulting in a decrease in overall output and operating rates; in terms of BF, after preliminary annual inspections, the production of major steel plants in Henan, Hubei, and Hunan remained steady. In terms of factory inventory, the market took CNY holidays, and factory inventories continued to grow.

It is expected that the output of wire rods in central China will drop again next week, mainly due to the complete shutdown of electric furnace steel plants in the region, resulting in a reduction in the supply of coiled rebar.

SNT Energy announced on 2 September that it had signed a contract with Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd. to supply heat recovery steam generators for the Hadong LNG combined-cycle power plant. The contract is valued at approximately KRW 128.2 billion and runs from September 2026 to December 2029. SNT Energy will form a consortium with Doosan Enerbility and will be responsible for supplying the heat recovery steam generators, a core component of the combined-cycle plant. The project is intended to replace the aging Hadong coal-fired Units 2 and 3 with a new high-efficiency LNG combined-cycle power plant, but their formal retirement date, the commissioning date of the new gas-fired plant, current coal consumption, or the volume of coal demand expected to be displaced is not being disclosed yet.

【JFE Steel Starts Japan’s First Large Stamp-Charging Coke Oven.】
JFE Steel commenced operations at its newly constructed No. 6 Coke Oven at the Fukuyama area of its West Japan Works on August 31, 2026. The project was built between May 2023 and August 2026 with an investment of approximately JPY 45 billion and has an annual coke production capacity of around 420,000 tonnes. The facility is Japan’s first large-scale coke oven to adopt the stamp-charging method. Unlike conventional top charging, the process compacts coal powder before pushing it horizontally into the oven. According to the supplied article, the new design improves production efficiency and reduces operating costs through better coke quality.
