Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On February 1, Kia Motors put the EV5 all-electric SUV's advanced version, the EV5 720 Long-range Edition, onto the Chinese market. Priced at a suggested retail of 184,800 yuan for the 720 Air version, 201,800 yuan for the 720 Land version, and 225,800 yuan for the 720 Wave version, this latest release brings an extended driving range and an array of comfort, convenience, and technological enhancements compared to its standard counterpart.

Going beyond the standard model, the EV5 Long-Range Edition boasts an impressive 720km range. Additionally, it introduces features such as zero-gravity stress-relief seats, a central drawer-style hot/cold insulation box, UWB digital key, and a folding table at the right rear seat, perfectly balancing comfort, convenience, and tech advancements.

Developed on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) dedicated to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the EV5 720 Long-Range Edition is equipped with an 88.1kWh battery pack and a high-power front motor with a maximum power of 160kW and peak torque of 310N·m. It can be charged from 30% to 80% of its battery capacity within only 27 minutes.

Catering to diverse consumer preferences, the EV5 720 Long-Range Edition offers an optional e-AWD dual-motor all-wheel-drive package. The four-wheel-drive variant boasts a maximum power of 233kW, peak torque of 480N·m, and a CLTC range of 630km.

Moreover, the vehicle features a 5-level adjustable intelligent kinetic energy recovery system, allowing single-pedal acceleration and deceleration in i-Pedal mode. Unique to its class, it comes standard with an efficient heat pump system and the second-generation intelligent battery temperature control system, delivering enhanced energy efficiency and longer range under equivalent battery capacity conditions.

According to the carmaker, the EV5 720 Long-Range Edition prioritizes a premium, health-conscious interior. Utilizing 10 environmentally friendly materials, including unique sustainable polymers, benzene-free coatings, bio-based polymers (sugarcane), bio-based synthetic leather (corn & soy), recycled PET fabric, and bio-based synthetic foam (plant oil), the SUV ensures a mother-and-child-friendly cabin environment, complemented by a self-drying antibacterial and PM2.5 air purification air conditioning system.

The EV5 720 Long-Range Edition comes standard with seven airbags, including a central airbag for the front row. Its body employs a multi-frame structure, with high-strength steel accounting for 73.6%, nearly 50% being ultra-high-strength steel, and 11% being hot-formed steel, resulting in an average strength of 68Kgf/mm².

Elevating the safety features, the EV5 720 Long-Range Edition integrates an L2+ intelligent driving assistance system. It introduces Forward Collision Avoidance Assist II (FCA2), enhancing functionalities such as cross-traffic, oncoming, side-approaching vehicles, and multi-scenario evasive steering assistance. The SUV also introduces the second-generation Highway Driving Assist (HDA2), supporting features like distance keeping, lane centering, and automatic lane change with a simple flick of the lever.

Additionally, the EV5 720 Long-Range Edition comes equipped with the second-generation Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA2), enabling not only remote straight-line summoning but also intelligent parking in vertical, parallel, and diagonal spaces.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
