Decarbonization Goals Have Been Reinforced

The International Aluminum Institute (IAI) has recently initiated a program aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability regarding greenhouse gas emissions within its global membership. This initiative involves the issuance of annual public reports on the industry's overall emissions, with member companies obligated to report their progress in reducing CO2 emissions at specific facilities on an annual basis.

The onset of a new year prompts individuals to contemplate resolutions for self-improvement, and the aluminum industry mirrors this sentiment with its commitment to advancing decarbonization efforts in 2024.

According to Christopher Davis, the International Aluminum Institute (IAI) has recently initiated a program aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability regarding greenhouse gas emissions within its global membership. This initiative involves the issuance of annual public reports on the industry's overall emissions, with member companies obligated to report their progress in reducing CO2 emissions at specific facilities on an annual basis.

Beyond facilitating investments in essential equipment and technologies crucial for carbon reduction, the London-based trade group asserts that the initiative seeks to assist IAI members in establishing long-term emissions reduction targets and action plans by the year's end.

Miles Prosser, Secretary General of IAI, emphasized the industry's dedication to swiftly diminishing greenhouse gas emissions, recognizing the necessity for investment and concerted action to align with global objectives. He stated that the initiative "will foster ambition and drive action towards decarbonizing aluminum supply chains."

This reporting endeavor enjoys support from various industry stakeholders worldwide, including notable players such as Aluminerie Alouette, Aluminium Bahrain, Alcoa, Alumina Ltd, Companhia Brasileira de Aluminio, Emirates Global Aluminum, Hindalco, Norsk Hydro, Mitsubishi Corp, Rio Tinto Aluminum, Rusal, Sohar Aluminum, and South32.
