Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 25th, SAIC-GM-Wuling (“SGMW”) officially launched the Wuling Red No. 1 Battery, specifically designed for new energy commercial vehicles (NECV). The company claims that the new battery is the first in its class to utilize liquid cooling technology, offering enhanced compatibility with the evolving needs of commercial vehicle users in the new era.

Currently, the Wuling Red No. 1 Battery has gone into mass production and will debut on SGMW's upcoming NECV model.

Feiliu Super Intelligent Thermal Control System

Thanks to the Feiliu Super Intelligent Thermal Control System, the Wuling Red No.1 Battery achieves higher energy supplement efficiency and an extended lifespan, said the automaker. Within the fast-charging range, it accomplishes a rapid 30%-80% charge in just 30 minutes.

As the first commercial vehicle battery in its class to employ liquid cooling technology, the Wuling Red No.1 Battery incorporates the Feiliu Super Intelligent Thermal Control System, consisting of the Feiliu liquid cooling structure, intelligent thermal control system, and the Feiliu insulation intelligent temperature control mechanism. The 9-channel parallel design of the Feiliu liquid cooling structure minimizes flow resistance, ensuring uniform and efficient heating and cooling during high-speed charging, reducing charging losses.

The intelligent thermal control system continuously monitors the battery temperature during charging, precisely adjusting it—automatically shutting down below 35°C to save energy and quickening cooling above 38°C. This optimization enhances charging efficiency, minimizes battery aging, and improves overall battery lifespan. Additionally, the Feiliu insulation intelligent temperature control mechanism maintains optimal working temperature during low temperatures, enhancing low-temperature range.

MUST Super Lightweight Structure Technology

Innovatively adopting MUST Super Lightweight Structure Technology, the Wuling Red No.1 Battery combines pioneering material innovations with novel structural design, effectively lowering battery maintenance costs and creating a significantly larger cargo space.

This technology enhances the battery pack's strength by over 60%, akin to providing the battery with an "exoskeleton." The super lightweight, high-strength design ensures high density, detachability, and easy maintenance of the battery, resulting in practical benefits for new energy commercial vehicle users.

With the support of the MUST Super Lightweight Structure Technology, the internal components of the Wuling Red No.1 Battery integrate structural beams, side panels, and thermal management functions, achieving an extremely compact battery thickness of only 148mm—a 28% reduction compared to similar models, liberating substantial interior space and optimizing commercial vehicle space utilization.

Wending Ultra-Durable Cell Technology

According to SGMW’s introduction, the Wuling Red No. 1 Battery incorporates the Wending Ultra-Durable Cell Technology, encompassing fast-charging, anti-degradation, and safety technologies, comprehensively enhancing cell durability for faster, longer-lasting, and safer performance.

Advanced flame-retardant materials protect the battery pack, and ceramic coating prevents thermal runaway. Innovative optimizations in the internal structure, solid-liquid interface, and material system include the adoption of an L-shaped tab instead of the traditional U-shaped tab to avoid sinking due to vibrations and potential short circuits caused by contact with the electrode sheet. The top of the electrode sheet features an insulating protective layer and a generous overhang design, preventing self-discharge and lithium precipitation. Rigorous quality control measures, including CCD high-speed testing and 100% x-ray inspection, ensure the quality of each cell, preventing internal short circuits.

Additionally, the Wuling Red No.1 Battery utilizes a new graphite-coating granulation technology and electrode gradient coating, employing low-impedance negative electrode interface construction, balancing fast-charging performance and high-temperature resistance. By applying high-stability SEI film formation technology and low-defect graphite negative liquid-phase coating technology, the new battery safeguards stability, security, and significantly improves the electrochemical performance and stability, extending the battery's cycle life.

The inaugural NECV model equipped with the Wuling Red No.1 Battery is set to hit the market soon, and SGMW plans to expand its NECV product lineup based on the new battery technology.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
