BYD revealed the groundbreaking collaboration with DJI to create the world's first vehicle-integrated UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle).

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The 2024 BYD Dream Day held on January 16 showcased BYD's prowess in intelligent technology and future strategic initiatives. Among the revelations was the groundbreaking collaboration with DJI to create the world's first vehicle-integrated UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle).

This in-vehicle drone system introduces an integrated automotive-grade drone bay, supporting intelligent storage, automatic battery swapping, and charging management. It boasts one-touch takeoff and landing capabilities, complemented by a UAV sensor chain to provide high-definition, high-frame-rate, and low-latency video transmission.

Technology-wise, this in-vehicle drone seamlessly integrates with BYD's new energy vehicles. Utilizing advanced navigation systems, sensor technologies, and intelligent control algorithms, the in-vehicle drone achieves autonomous takeoff and landing, automatic cruising, and intelligent obstacle avoidance. Furthermore, the drone is equipped with high-definition cameras and various sensors to monitor real-time road conditions and capture road information, enhancing overall driving safety.

BYD stated that this ambitious project involves an investment of 5 billion yuan and will be implemented in several phases over the coming years. The R&D and production of the in-vehicle drone will leverage BYD's strengths in automotive manufacturing, battery technology, and DJI's expertise in UAV technology, catering to the diverse needs of future mobility.

It is noteworthy that the Yangwang U8 Player Edition under BYD's premium brand Yangwang is set to feature this innovative in-vehicle UAV. The recent declaration in the latest catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology revealed that the roof of the U8 Player Edition will be equipped with the in-vehicle drone.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
