Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 10th and January 15th, 2024, BYD held delivery and maiden voyage ceremonies for its car carrier, the EXPLORER NO.1, at two locations – Yantai Port in Shandong province and Shenshan Xiaomo International Logistics Port in Shenzhen city, respectively. These events symbolize BYD's entry into a new phase of expanding its presence in the overseas market.
The EXPLORER NO.1, BYD's first car roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) transport ship, measuring 199.9 meters in length with a capacity of 7,000 standard car slots, features the latest LNG dual-fuel propulsion technology. Designed to accommodate diverse shipping routes, it is capable of transporting various new energy vehicles. Over the next two years, BYD plans to introduce an additional seven Ro-Ro ships into operation, incorporating BYD's energy storage battery technology and axle-generator systems on board.
During the ceremonies, the first batch of vehicles to be exported was efficiently loaded onto the ship, reaching its full capacity.
In 2023, BYD achieved a total sales figure of 3,024,417 units, marking a remarkable year-on-year spike of 61.9%. This not only secured BYD as the top-selling automotive brand in China for the year but also clinched the global new energy vehicle sales crown. Its export volume for 2023 totaled 242,765 units, zooming up 334.2% year over year. Currently, BYD's footprint in the new energy sector spans over 70 countries and regions across six continents, encompassing more than 400 cities.
