Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 3, 2024, NIO and LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. ("LONGi") inked a strategic cooperation agreement, aiming to collaboratively advance the use of photovoltaic-generated clean energy in electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, according to NIO's press release.

The partnership is set to establish an industry-leading integrated station for solar energy storage and EV charging, contributing to the realization of carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals in the transportation sector, said NIO.

NIO, a prominent intelligent EV company in China, is also the world's largest operator of intelligent electric vehicle battery swapping networks, managing over 2,300 swapping stations globally. Simultaneously, NIO holds the distinction of being the automotive brand with the most charging piles in the Chinese market.

As a leading global solar technology company, LONGi is committed to contributing to global energy transition through innovative products and solutions, combining "green electricity" and "green hydrogen" to power sustainable development across various industries.

Zhong Baoshen, Chairman of LONGi, expressed his anticipation, stating, "From the perspective of 'carbon neutrality,' our collaboration will serve as a model for creating a 'global carbon-neutral' paradigm, focusing on both power generation and consumption sides to achieve 'carbon-neutral travel.' We look forward to sparking more collaborations in photovoltaics, charging infrastructure, V2G system solutions, and industry standards related to 'carbon-neutral travel,' propelling the energy infrastructure of the transportation system towards a cleaner, greener, and lower-carbon future."

William Bin Li, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of NIO, emphasized the strategic significance of the partnership, stating, "This collaboration with LONGi will drive the wider adoption of photovoltaic power generation in the automotive industry. It will empower more new energy vehicles to use solar-generated green electricity as a primary energy source, contributing to the high-quality development of the intelligent electric vehicle industry."

The inaugural Hybrid Passivated Back Contact ("HPBC") photovoltaic battery swapping station resulting from the NIO and LONGi partnership has already commenced operations at the Xi'an Olympic Sports Center.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
