The president of JFE Steel Corporation, Japan's second largest steel manufacturer, Katsuhiko Ota, expressed on December 20th the company's intention to expand its business in the United States. He also mentioned that the acquisition of an American steel company by a Japanese competitor will further deepen the ties between the two countries' steel industry. Ota stated at a press conference, "The U.S. steel business is expected to grow, and there is anticipated stable demand in the automotive industry. If there is an opportunity, we will consider (expansion) and evaluate which business areas present opportunities." He added that JFE Steel currently does not have specific plans to increase investments in the United States.
