Alcoa Corporation Discusses Operational Challenges Faced by the San Ciprián Aluminum Industry with Spanish Authorities
According to foreign media reports, Alcoa Corporation has held a series of important meetings with national and regional authorities in Spain to address the financial difficulties facing its San Ciprián alumina refinery and aluminum smelter. Due to these financial challenges, the San Ciprián alumina refinery has been operating at only half of its installed capacity since the third quarter of 2022. Alcoa has been dealing with issues related to high energy costs and difficulty in obtaining alternative energy sources, which has affected the competitiveness of the company. Additionally, the company is facing broader market challenges, including a general economic slowdown in Europe and declining sales prices.
Despite these obstacles, Alcoa is committed to its investment of $650,000 in 2023 under the feasibility agreement.
