According to the latest customs data, China imported 108,900 mt of unwrought aluminium alloy in October, up 9.2% YoY and 17.5% MoM.

According to the latest customs data, China imported 108,900 mt of unwrought aluminium alloy in October, up 9.2% YoY and 17.5% MoM. From January to October 2023, total import volume was 907,800 mt, down 15.9% YoY.
In October, export volume of unwrought aluminium alloy was 15,400 mt, down 15.6% YoY and 45.1% MoM. A total export volume from January to October was 206,100 mt, up 10.9% YoY.
In terms of imports, most of aluminium alloy ingots arriving at Chinese ports in October were orders from August and September. Domestic aluminium prices kept hiking in September, hitting above 19,000 yuan/mt, and ADC12 prices followed to increase. Meanwhile, overseas quotations were basically stable at $2,240-2,270/mt. Under this circumstance, the import window opened, and profits of ADC12 imports were as high as 800 yuan/mt, but narrowed to 300-500 yuan/mt, tracking swings of falling domestic prices after the National Day holiday.
Recently, there were rising overseas raw material prices and falling RMB exchange rate. Meanwhile, offers from Malaysia, South Korea and other regions hiked to $2,300/mt. Under this circumstance, ADC12 imports suffered losses, shutting down import window. Owing to booming auto consumption in Japan, Malaysia and other countries exported more aluminium alloy ingots to Japan and fewer to China. Therefore, the number of ADC12 arriving at Chinese ports may decrease.

EGA to Pilot E40 Smelting Tech at Al Taweelah, Aiming for Higher Output and Lower Energy Use
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) will pilot its new E40 smelting technology on 13 DX reduction cells at the Al Taweelah smelter, targeting higher aluminum output with lower energy consumption. If subsequently deployed across all 808 DX cells in Potlines 1 and 2, EGA estimates the upgrade could increase hot-metal production by around 67,000 tonnes/year, while reducing net specific energy consumption and associated power-generation CO₂ emissions by approximately 6% per tonne of aluminum produced. EGA has accelerated the E40 pilot so the modifications can be installed during the ongoing restoration of Al Taweelah following the March 28 shutdown. The technology is designed as a retrofit for existing DX cells, allowing EGA to extract additional production from its existing smelting infrastructure rather than constructing a new potline. The company will use the 13-cell pilot to validate performance before deciding on wider deployment across the 808-cell fleet.

ADC12 Market Stable, Few Price Cuts Amid High Costs and Weak Demand Recovery
[SMM Aluminum Alloy Daily Review] ADC12 market quotes were largely stable today, with only a few enterprises lowering prices by 100 yuan/mt. Although aluminum prices and futures pulled back, constrained by high costs, enterprises showed relatively limited willingness to proactively cut prices, and sentiment to hold prices firm persisted in the market. ADC12 prices are expected to continue a sideways consolidation pattern in the short term, with cost support and compliant procurement pressure limiting the downside, while weak demand recovery will also cap the elasticity of further price rises.
