Horizon Robotics and Volkswagen Group's CARIAD announce establishment of joint venture CARIZON

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On December 8, 2023, Horizon Robotics, a provider of energy-efficient computing solutions for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving (AD) in China, and CARIAD, the automotive software and technology firm within the Volkswagen Group, today announced the official establishment of their joint venture, which is named CARIZON.

CARIZON, stemming from a collaboration agreement initiated in 2022, will leverage Horizon Robotics' robust software and hardware integration capabilities alongside CARIAD’s expertise in vehicle and system integration. This collaboration aims to craft state-of-the-art, highly optimized full-stack ADAS/AD solutions. The focus will be on developing cutting-edge automated driving solutions powered by Horizon Robotics’ Journey series computing solutions, slated for mass production in Volkswagen's BEV (battery electric vehicles) models across China.

Headquartered in Beijing, CARIZON anticipates recruiting a workforce exceeding 300 experts by the year's end. Positioned as a transformative force in mobility, CARIZON aims to liberate passengers and drivers, allowing them to focus on what truly matters.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
