Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 2, GAC AION, the new energy vehicle (NEV)-dedicated subsidiary of GAC Group, held an event to launch the AION Y PLUS battery electric vehicle (BEV) model in Cambodia, marking its official foray into the Cambodian auto market.

The significant move was conducted by partnering with a local auto dealer. It followed GAC AION's strategic entry into the global market, starting with Thailand earlier this year.

The company's Deputy General Manager, Xiao Yong, and Gold Integrate Co., Ltd.'s Chairman, Huang Yongjie, signed a memorandum of cooperation on June 28 during the "the 2023 China (Guangdong) - Thailand Economic and Trade Exchange Conference," officially announcing GAC AION's entry into the Thai market.

The original plans included establishing GAC AION's Southeast Asian headquarters in Thailand by the end of the year and preparing local production for Thai-spec models. GAC AION aims to deepen its presence in the Thai market, extending its reach to Southeast Asia and surrounding regions, gradually achieving an integrated "research, production, supply, and sales" approach on a global scale.

In September this year, GAC Group held a press conference in Bangkok, Thailand, unveiling AION’s first overseas model, the AION Y PLUS, and marking the initiation of its “going global” strategy. GAC AION's General Manager, Gu Huinan, emphasized future plans for localized production, sales, and services in Thailand, contributing to the country's ambition to become a hub for electric vehicle industries in Southeast Asia.

GAC AION said its entry into Cambodia is a pivotal move within its global strategy and innovation initiatives. The company, armed with its two major brands, AION and Hyper, covering a range of vehicle types, aims to inject new vitality into the Cambodian automotive market. Through its global strategy, GAC AION intends to introduce its key products into Cambodia, fostering a transition towards green new energy in the country's automotive industry.
