"REC, a solar module manufacturer based in Singapore, recently announced the closure of its multicrystalline silicon production in Kristiansand and Porsgrunn, Norway. The group's CEO, Jan Enno Bicker, stated in a press release to Norwegian media that they were no longer able to produce high-purity silicon in Norway due to their inability to compete with Chinese companies' low electricity prices. In fact, REC had restarted its multicrystalline silicon factory in Norway in March of this year, but due to the high local electricity prices, they closed the factory again in August."
