[SMM Steel] India Steel Market Remains Slow Ahead of Dussehra, Prices Mostly Ease

[India Domestic] India’s domestic steel market remained weak with prices mostly trending downward. Demand was subdued with buyers less active and trading volumes limited due to the ongoing Navratri festival and Dussehra on Tuesday. Market activity may improve next week after the festival, although a significant price movement will depend on a recovery in buying interest. HMS 1&2 (80:20) unchanged 397 USD/tonne (37,700 INR/tonne) delivered Mandi. Raipur PDRI sponge iron down 3 USD/tonne (300 INR/tonne) to 292 USD/tonne (27,700 INR/tonne) EXW Raipur.

[SMM survey] Short-term halted beneficiation plants resume production, iron ore concentrates production edges up slightly

According to the latest SMM statistics, China's overall mine capacity utilization rate stood at 58.2% this week, up 0.9 percentage points WoW. Iron ore concentrate production reached 900,000 mt, up 30,000 mt WoW. Over the same period, mine concentrate inventory fell by 20,000 mt to approximately 243,000 mt.

[ECL Sells 413.5 Tonnes of Scrap, Generates INR 2.21 Crore]

Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, disposed of 413.5 tonnes of scrap against 850 tonnes identified for disposal during October 2–16 under Special Campaign 6. Iron scrap disposal on October 14 generated INR 2.21 crore. The initiative supports resource recovery and scrap recycling, although no direct impact on steel market prices or supply was reported.
