China may obtain 42 million mt/year of direct reduced iron or 70 million mt/year of iron ore concentrate from Russia within 5 years

Recently, at the plenary session of the 14th China Iron and Steel Annual Conference, Gan Yong, honorary chairman of the China Metal Society, former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, started with "new quality productivity" and put forward suggestions on how the steel industry can promote high-quality development in the new era. Gan Yong said that we will build a Sino-Russian steel production capacity cooperation base in the western Kursk region based on Russia's existing steel production lines, a Chinese-funded iron ore equity base in the central Ural region based on Russian iron ore, a Sino-Russian metallurgical industrial park that matches the northeast China-based industrial base in the eastern Transbaikal Territory, in a bid to obtain 42 million mt/year of direct reduced iron or 70 million mt/year of iron concentrate from Russia within 5 years, and achieve 58 million mt/year of a carbon dioxide emission. China will obtain 60 million mt of direct reduced iron, or 100 million mt of iron concentrate/year within 10 years, achieving a carbon dioxide emission reduction of some 82 million mt/year.
