Aware Super, one of the largest pension funds in Australia, has announced plans to invest up to AUD 2 billion (USD 1.3 billion) into Birdwood Energy's distributed generation portfolio.
This investment will be used for Birdwood's distributed energy platform, primarily involving small-scale solar and storage projects, which currently has two operational solar farms and is adding storage capacity. Birdwood stated that there are another 10 solar and storage projects in the pipeline for the new platform. The new platform will also expand and accelerate the development of distributed energy through acquisitions of late-stage development projects, existing projects and corporate equity investments, as well as signing power purchase agreements with retail, industrial and commercial customers.
