Sharjah National Oil Company (SNOC) has signed a 60MW solar power agreement (PPA) with Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF Group, to develop the largest solar power plant to date in Sharjah, UAE. Under the terms of the agreement, SNOC and Emerge will develop the photovoltaic project at SNOC's Sajaa Gas Complex, with the solar power generated being prioritized for SNOC's operations, with the remaining power being received by Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA)'s grid. In addition, SEWA will also provide SNOC with the necessary power for its night operations. The contract arrangements for the project follow a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) model, with the project expected to be operational by the end of 2024, with a total life cycle of 25 years.
