The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released the latest data on the cost of building power plants in the United States. The data showed that the average cost of building new solar facilities in 2020-2021 decreased by 6%.
Most importantly, the decrease in costs is mainly related to the decrease in the cost of silicon tracking components, which make up the majority of components in U.S. projects. According to EIA data, the U.S. will install more than 6GW of tracking solar components in 2021, equivalent to 56% of the new large-scale ground photovoltaic capacity on the U.S. grid, fixed-angle silicon component projects about 2GW, and various cadmium telluride component projects about 1GW.
