Indian billionaire industrialist and steel magnate Sajjan Jindal has suggested the government to levy import duties to counter the tariffs imposed by the US and the carbon tax imposed by Europe, to create a level playing field for Indian companies. In an interview, Sajjan Jindal said, "Every region is looking at their own protection measures. The US has imposed import duties on steel. The European Union has the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The EU is providing a lot of funds to subsidize or support their own industries while companies from other regions are not getting such subsidies. I hope India can also set up non-tariff barriers or steel import barriers."
