Indonesia's nickel reserves are decreasing, limiting the construction of new nickel smelters to maintain nickel ore reserves. Djoko Widajatno, executive director of the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA), assessed that 132 nickel smelters will be built in the future. By 2025, 22 smelters are planned to be added. Indonesia will have hundreds of smelters, producing and consuming nearly 500 million tons of nickel ore per year.
