Will the large-scale Energy storage market undergo another restructuring? (SMM Analysis)

According to SMM data, the total production of energy storage battery cells in China reached approximately 18GWh in July, a slight increase of 3% MoM.

SHANGHAI, Aug 23 (SMM) –

According to SMM data, the total production of energy storage battery cells in China reached approximately 18GWh in July, a slight increase of 3% MoM. The shipment volume and production volume were essentially the same, with little change in shipment levels compared to June. Among them, the shipment of large-scale storage battery cells remained high at approximately 15GWh, accounting for over 80% of the market share, while the shipment of small-scale storage battery cells remained low at approximately 3GWh, indicating that the market is still in a sluggish state.

In terms of shipment volume, the top 5 companies in the large-scale energy storage market remain as CATL, BYD, Hithium, EVE Energy, and REPT. With the exception of REPT, all other companies have a monthly shipment volume of over 1.5GWh, resulting in a CR5 of over 75%. Among them, BYD and Hithium have gradually moved into the top 3 due to their expansion of production capacity, demonstrating a significant increase in market share. With the anticipated launch of production lines in the third quarter, it is expected that major companies will undergo significant changes in market share in the second half of the year.

Large-scale energy storage battery cell market was still at a high level, but the domestic market has passed the peak installation period and demand has experienced a slight decline. In addition, overseas demand has fallen short of expectations due to changes in interest rates and policies. It is expected that the overall shipment volume will decline in August. However, some manufacturers are maintaining a high production rate to fulfill orders and prepare for Q4 inventory.

The shipment volume in the small-scale energy storage market remained sluggish. The top 5 companies in terms of shipment volume are CATL (including ATL), BYD, REPT, Pylontech, and Gotion High-tech. Each of these companies has a monthly shipment volume of over 350 MWh, with a CR5 of approximately 64%. Many companies had a low production rate as their market performance fell short of expectations, resulting in delayed expansion plans. Currently, the inventory in the small-scale energy storage battery cell market remains high. However, as the weather turns colder, the energy shortage issue in the European market is expected to reemerge, leading to an increase in shipment volume in the Q3 quarter.

Compared to June, the market did not experience significant changes in July. However, with the continuous commissioning of new production capacity, shipment volumes have increased, leading to constant shifts in market share among major manufacturers. The large-scale energy storage market may undergo another reshuffling.

Pada pukul 18.00 tanggal 25 Agustus, unit No. 3 proyek pembangkit listrik tenaga uap 3×660 MW "penggantian unit kecil dengan unit besar" milik SPIC Qinghai Provincial Investment berhasil melewati uji coba operasi beban penuh 168 jam, menandai operasi kapasitas penuh unit pembangkit listrik tenaga uap ultra-superkritis 660 MW tertinggi di dunia dengan pembakaran campuran batubara alkali tinggi rasio tinggi. Setelah proyek mencapai operasi kapasitas penuh, total kapasitas terpasangnya akan mencapai 1.980 MW, dengan pembangkitan listrik stabil rata-rata tahunan lebih dari 8 miliar kWh, sepenuhnya memenuhi kebutuhan listrik seluruh Provinsi Qinghai.
