[Goa Auctions 24 Iron Ore Dump Lots Totalling Nearly 42Mt]
India’s Goa state has concluded the second phase of its iron ore dump auction programme, with all 24 lots covering about 41.94million tonnes of material successfully auctioned. Official data from the Goa Directorate of Mines & Geology show that the lots vary significantly in size, with the largest, Dump-18 at Sonus Vonvoilem/Cudnem in Sattari-Bicholim, containing around 11.73million tonnes. According to Goa Mines Director Narayan Gad, the state is expected to receive approximately 23.05USD million (2.2billion INR) in upfront payments from the auctions. The highest bid was recorded for Dump-14 at Cormonem in Dharbandora, containing about 843,258tonnes of material, where the winning bid reached 166% against a reserve level of 22%. The auction process could support a gradual increase in iron ore availability from Goa for both domestic use and exports, although actual movement of material will depend on statutory approvals, lifting schedules and other regulatory requirements applicable to individual sites.
