SHANGHAI, Apr 28 (SMM) - About 24 companies are planning to deploy HJT solar cell-based production lines, with a planned production capacity of 117.1 GW, and the projects are mainly located in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Companies with the largest planned capacity are Huasheng, Risen, Huarun/AKCOME, Baoxin, and Huayao. There are seven companies with an annual HJT solar cell capacity of more than 10 GW. Most of the projects are solar cell and module-integrated projects.

Up to now, there are mainly two companies that mass-produce HJT solar cells, namely, Huasheng’s project with an annual production capacity of 2.7 GW in Xuancheng city, Anhui province, and Golden Glass’ HJT solar cell project with an annual capacity of 1.2 GW in Jiuquan city, Gansu province. The total monthly HJT solar cell supply released by the two companies is about 500 MW.

It is estimated that the annual production capacity of HJT solar cells will reach 19.5 GW in mid-2023 and more than 50 GW by the end of the year. In 2023, HJT solar cell shipments are expected to exceed 15 GW, which is contributed by the orders in the third and fourth quarters. The market share will increase from 0.6% to 3%.

Opportunities and challenges of HJT solar cell capacity expansion are as follows. 1. Cost of the original equipment is as high as 250-350 million yuan, and it will take a relatively longer time to recycle the equipment. The cost efficiency of the HJT solar cell is lower than that of the TOPCon solar cell. 2. To achieve a breakthrough in mass production efficiency of more than 26%, the technology upgrade is still in urgent need. And few domestic companies are mastering HJT solar cell technology. New HJT solar cell players face overwhelming challenges. 3. The production cost of HJT solar cells is high. For instance, prices of low-temperature silver paste, which is in great demand, stand high, and the technology of silver-coated copper powder and copper electroplating is not yet mature...

China Approves 17.44 GW Power Plan for Qaidam Desert Base, Including Solar, Wind, and Energy Storage Projects
It is understood that the National Energy Administration has officially approved the power source allocation plan for the "Qaidam Desert Base (East Golmud) Base". The planned construction scale of the power source projects at this base is 17.44 million kilowatts, including 10 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power, 5 million kilowatts of wind power, 2.64 million kilowatts of coal-fired power, 0.1 million kilowatts of solar thermal power, and 1.5 million kilowatts (for 4 hours) of electrochemical energy storage. The total investment in the projects is about 86 billion yuan. The new energy will be transmitted to Guangxi through the "Qinghai-Guangxi DC" UHV power transmission project. Currently, significant progress has been made in the preliminary work of the "Qinghai-Guangxi DC" project, w

[SMM PV News] Armenia Hits 1.1 GW Solar Capacity,
Armenia’s cumulative solar capacity has surged to 1.1 GW following the addition of approximately 615 MW in 2025. This rapid expansion has pushed solar's share of electricity generation to around 15%, effectively meeting the country's 2030 target years ahead of schedule. The growth is heavily driven by a net-metering scheme supporting over 50,000 autonomous producers (totaling 650 MW), though the government ended loan subsidies for rooftop solar in July to shift focus toward battery storage.
