Market Pessimism Grew as China Northern Rare Earth Lowered Rare Earth Concentrates Prices

PrNd oxide prices continued to fall last week. Mainstream PrNd oxide inched down to 485,000-490,000 yuan/mt last Friday from 516,000-520,000 yuan/mt two Fridays ago, down 5.9%.

PrNd oxide prices continued to fall last week. Mainstream PrNd oxide inched down to 485,000-490,000 yuan/mt last Friday from 516,000-520,000 yuan/mt two Fridays ago, down 5.9%.

PrNd alloy prices also went down 5.6% from 625,000-630,000 yuan/mt to 590,000-595,000 yuan/mt.

Sluggish downstream orders led to quiet inquiries.

In addition, China Northern Rare Earth (Group) High-Tech Co. has lowered the transaction prices of rare earth concentrates, growing pessimism in the market. Buyers pushed for lower prices, and the actual transaction volume was still low.

According to SMM statistics, China’s exports of NdFeB magnets totaled 4,730 tons in May 2026, marking a month-on-month decline of 7.72%. However, volumes surged by 281.84% year-on-year. The sharp YoY increase is primarily attributed to a low base effect caused by export controls in May 2025. The MoM drop, meanwhile, reflects both seasonal weakness in overseas demand and tangible changes in domestic export licensing procedures.
