On April 11, Australian mineral exploration company Arafura Rare Earths announced a contract under which Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will purchase PrNd oxide to make permanent magnets for its offshore wind turbines. Starting from 2026, Siemens Gamesa will be buying 200 mt of PrNd per year, which will increase to 360 mt in the second year and 400 mt in the following three years. If mutually agreed, Siemens Gamesa will be able to extend the initial contract for two years. Siemens Gamesa intends to use the purchased PrNd for the manufacture of permanent magnets used in the assembly of offshore wind turbines at its Cuxhaven production facility in Germany.
