As of March 31, the zinc concentrate inventory at Lianyungang port totalled 150,000 mt, a drop of 20,000 mt from the beginning of the month.
Most of the imported zinc concentrate at Lianyungang port, a major port for China’s zinc concentrate imports, was ordered by smelters.
With the increase of delivery-taking by smelters, the inventory dropped significantly. Meanwhile, the import window remained closed, limiting zinc concentrate imports. This also lowered the overall port inventory.
It is expected that in April, the import window of zinc concentrate will open briefly. Shipments data in March, which usually reflects arrivals data one month in advance, surged before falling. Therefore, arrivals are expected to increase in April.
Considering a slowdown in delivery taking by smelters, inventory in Lianyungang will grow slightly in April.
