Freeport-McMoRan (FCX.US), one of the world's largest listed copper producers, said recently that commodity trading giant Glencore Plc proposed to acquire Teck Resources (TECK.US) for $23 billion, which will be part of a consolidation trend in the copper industry. The company said that as investors in copper mining companies have increasing demand for the extraction of new mineral resources, this trend will generate more mergers and acquisitions.
