SHANGHAI, Jan 30 (SMM) - Protests in Peru are affecting copper output, with about 30% of the country's output at risk. Glencore has halted operations at the Antapaccay copper mine following another attack. The Las Bambas copper mine may also suspend copper production from February 1 (Peru time) after transportation is blocked.
On January 30, Minmetals Resources issued an announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange stating that after the transportation was blocked, the Las Bambas copper mine was forced to gradually slow down operations due to the shortage of key materials. If the situation persists, the mine will suspend copper production from February 1 (Peru time).
The announcement shows that nationwide demonstrations and protests in Peru have blocked traffic for several weeks, causing widespread unrest in the southern region and affecting mine operations along the southern access corridor.a
