SHANGHAI, Jan 28 (SMM) - Operating PV capacity in Sweden reached 2.6 GW at the end of December 2022, which was higher than 1.6 GW in 2021, according to provisional figures released by the Swedish solar energy association Svensk Solenergi.

The data shows that solar deployment in 2022 is the best in the country so far, with about 1 GW of new capacity being added. The country installed 503 MW in 2021, 400 MW in 2020, 287 MW in 2019 and 180 MW in 2018.

Sweden now has more than 140,000 PV arrays, an increase of 50,800 units from 2021. In 2021, about 26,541 units were new installed.

Most of Sweden's PV capacity consists of residential and commercial arrays, which are supported by a rebate scheme for which the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) has spent about 4.5 billion Swedish Krona (USD 440 million) in the period 2009-2021.

In recent years, several subsidy-free solar projects have been built across the country under power purchase agreements, contributing to the new growth.
