SHANGHAI, Jan 28 (SMM) - According to Unión Española Fotovoltaica (UNEF), Spain has deployed 2,507 MW of new PV systems under its self-consumption regime, an increase of 108% from 1,203 MW in 2021.
As of the end of December 2022, Spain's cumulative installed capacity for self-consumption reached approximately 5,249 MW. About 47% of new capacity was installed in the industrial sector, followed by 32% in the residential sector and 20% in the commercial sector. Off-grid installations accounted for only 1% of the total.
According to a study conducted by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Energy Conservation (IDAE) in 2021, installed capacity for self-consumption could reach 9,000-14,000 MW by 2030.
Other countries are trying to accelerate self-consumption so that companies and households can cope with the current volatility in energy prices. Germany abolished VAT on self-use and household batteries, and the Netherlands has done the same.
