SHANGHAI, Dec 28 (SMM) - According to customs data, China exported 134,500 mt of prebaked anode in November, a drop of 35.42% month-on-month and 42.55% year-on-year. The total prices of export stood at $157 million dollars and the unit price continued to decline to $1167.57/mt. Up to now, the total export volume of prebaked anode in China totalled 1.84 million mt in January to November, an increase of 192,400 mt or 11.71% on the year.
In terms of destinations, Malaysia is the largest importer, with an import volume of 74,000 mt, far exceeding the actual local demand in Malaysia. It is expected that Malaysia's import volume will shrink slightly in December. The exports to Russian were 5,600 mt. According to feedback from prebaked anode companies, the export reduction is mainly due to the production suspension of some aluminium plants in Russian which weakened demand for prebaked anode.
In 2021, the total export volume of prebaked anode was 1.8817 million mt while the exports reached 1.835 million mt in just 11 months of this year. China's prebaked anode exports performed strongly in 2022 mainly due to the impact of overseas conflicts, such as the tight supply in Europe and the United Arab Emirates. As the world's largest prebaked anode producer, China naturally undertook the production to fulfil the overseas supply gap. In December, prebaked anode export companies reported that orders are normal, and the export volume is expected to increase 150,000-200,000 mt, and the total annual export volume is expected to exceed 2 million mt.
